REGENT THEATER

Originally built in 1914 as the National Theater, it was one of twenty entertainment venues on Main Street, in what was then known as the "Theater District" of Los Angeles. Throughout the years, it was a “grindhouse” and adult-movie theater, before closing in 2000. Over a decade later, it was transformed into a music venue by Spaceland Presents , which brought in New Theme and TEG to revitalize the 104-year-old building. The Regent re-opened in 2014 with a completely updated interior, a second-story mezzanine, an attached bar (Lovesong) and a restaurant (Prufrock Pizzeria). The Regent also hosts monthly events such as the Rock 'N' Roll Flea Market and an 80's/90's dance party.

BRENNAN'S: Turtle Races

Front (Curbed LA: ABC)

Brennan's is an Irish Pub in Marina Del Rey, established in 1972, known for its long tradition of weekly turtle races. In 2017, ABC (Artisinal Brewers Collective, a new powerhouse in Los Angeles) rehabilitated this local hub by revamping the aesthetic that invokes nostalgia for the long-time guests, updating the food menu, and adding a badminton court. ABC even consulted with a herpetologist and created a lovely sanctuary, to ensure the health and happiness of the beloved turtles (some of which have been a part of Brennan's for two decades). The turtles now race once a month, but guests can admire them through their sanctuary window, as they happily swim around or munch on their snacks.

FAIRFAX CINEMA: SILENT THEATER

[silent] film enthusiasts

Originally opened in 1942, by John and Dorothy Hampton, well after 'talkie' films had taken over. John was determined and passionate about preserving and sharing silent films, which were from his personal collection that he had meticulously restored himself. After John's passing in 1990, it has shuffled through a few owners, who luckily were careful to respectfully preserve the history of the theater through any renovations they did. Throughout the years it has been a movie theater, music venue, and private event space.

In 2019 it was restored to its original art-deco design, to revitalize it’s theatrical Theater Row glory.
